Singapore: Wimbly Lu Chocolate Cafe

21 Mar

As an occasional resident of Serangoon, Wimbly Lu, a chocolate and dessert cafe on Jalan Riang is a great addition to the neighbourhood. It’s situated on the same row as Jules Cafe and The Fat Cat, nestled in a private estate a short drive from Serangoon MRT. We came here one Saturday afternoon after lunch for dessert, and it was better than I expected. If you’re curious about the name, it’s actually an amalgamation of the owners’ names :)

Wimbly Lu’s signature vintage beetle

Lovely cosy and rustic decor with natural light flowing it

Retro water dispenser

Adorably failed coffee art on the cafe latte ($5) – now that’s a first!

Homemade iced lemon tea ($3)

Blackout cake ($6)

Double chocolate cheesecake ($6). Btw how cute is that plate?

Waffles with chocolate ice cream and toffee sauce ($8.5)

Everything we had was pretty delish! The cakes were rich and used good quality chocolate, and the waffle was really light and crisp. The only things that I felt weren’t up to standard were the ice cream (that came with the waffle) which was too gummy in consistency, and the toffee sauce that didn’t look like toffee sauce (more like honey). But those are small things that I’m willing to overlook as the food is good on the whole and the cafe is really pretty. Prices were very reasonable (no service charge too) and service was also warm and attentive. Will be back to check out the chocolates and the many other desserts on the menu.

[…] Heard a lot about their homemade waffles so of course I had to try them. This was the going bananas waffle ($9.30) that had sliced bananas, maple syrup, icing sugar and we added a scoop of chocolate ice cream (+$2). It was actually quite a small portion for the price (I expected a whole round waffle) and wasn’t particularly crispy or fluffy. I must say I much prefer the ones at Wimbly Lu. […]
