Shanghai: Hatsune by Haiku

A friend brought us to Hatsune by Haiku in IFC, Pudong (near the unmissable Jin Mao Tower) which serves pretty good Japanese food at affordable prices. In addition to the usual Japanese items, they also serve a large variety of Japanese-Californian fusion sushi rolls. It was packed to the brim when we were there for dinner (seemed like mostly expats, and quite a few Singaporeans actually), but thankfully we had reservations so do make them. I later found out that the owners of this restaurant actually run a group of popular Japanese restaurants with varying concepts in Shanghai, Beijing and Hangzhou.

Sashimi salad to start off

Soft shell crab roll – This was delicious! Much better than anything I’ve had in Singapore. Loved the copious amount of mayo and the soft shell crab was actually still crispy. I only wish we had more stomach space to try their other popular rolls. There were a lot to choose from!

Yakitori chicken wings – I miss the ones in Kazu, Singapore but these were decent too.
